Sylvester Street Sound Garden
The Cultural Industries Quarter of Sheffield is a developing area and this model represents how my group and I have redesigned the Sylvester street area. The model is at 1:100 and highlights key features of the site such as, The Porter Brook which runs along the South edge of the site. Here we are encouraging people to interact with it by lowering a large area to the same level as the water and then running rills through the grass.
To enhance the sound qualities we have made it largely open but have provided a retaining wall running along the north edge to provide an echo for the water running past.
What I have taken forward from this project is how useful a model can be. Physically being able to change something and see the effect it will have right in front of you expedites and refines the design process.
